I am pleased to join you today to close the 2019 Orlando Plenary of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and to help mark the important 30-year anniversary of this important body. FATF President Marshall Billingslea informs me that the FATF has had a productive week tackling some of the most pressing illicit finance challenges facing the international financial system.

Orlando – Today, U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin delivered closing remarks at the Plenary meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Orlando, Florida. The Plenary marked the historic 30-year anniversary of the FATF, and the final Plenary of the U.S. Presidency. Under Treasury’s Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Marshall Billingslea’s leadership as President, the FATF achieved critical advances in the fight to combat illicit finance.

WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated four Nicaraguan government officials, Gustavo Eduardo Porras Cortes, Orlando Jose Castillo Castillo, Sonia Castro Gonzalez, and Oscar Salvador Mojica Obregon, pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13851. Additionally, Sonia Castro Gonzalez and Gustavo Eduardo Porras Cortes have been designated pursuant to the Nicaragua Human Rights and Anticorruption Act of 2018 (NHRAA). Today’s action targets Nicaraguan government officials who persecute Nicaraguan citizens exercising their fundamental freedoms, enact repressive laws, silence news media, and deny medical care to the Nicaraguan people.
